She also holds a graduate degree in Figurative Studies from the New York Academy of Art. One of America's premier illustrators, Chris has worked for many Fortune 500 companies including American Express, AT&T, IBM, and Adidas, as well as publications including the New York Times, People Magazine and the Wall Street Journal. Her work is in many institutions, including the George Washington museum at Mount Vernon, Virginia.
In the last years, Chris has turned to portraiture. She has painted portraits for magazine covers and private commissions. Chris is the portrait artist for the PGA gallery at Sawgrass in Ponte Verde, Florida, and has done twenty-eight portraits of champion golfers. She is a member of The Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists.
The portrait process begins with a meeting and photography session. This can be done at our studio in New Hartford, Connecticut, or your home. Chris will then provide black and white line drawing sketches with prices by mail, fax, or email, for the your approval. A non-refundable 50% deposit will be required with your final approval of a sketch. Chris works in classic oil portrait techniques, which require multiple layers of paints and glazes. This takes time, as the work must be allowed to "set up" between layers. She will provide periodic glimpses of the work in progress, though email or mail Portrait prices are based on the number of subjects, how much of each subject is to be depicted, the size of the painting, the intricacy of clothing, jewelry and props, and the complexity of the background setting. These sample prices assume the subject will come to our Connecticut studio for a reference photo session (occasionally, more than one session is required). Travel expenses to other locations will be additional, and the use of your own photographs will generally increase the cost.
You may reach Chris at info@ChrisDukeArt.com or (860) 482-3137. She lives in New Hartford, Connecticut with her husband, John. |
